Bruns told police she had a medical condition, and was taken to a nearby hospital. She also told officers that she was creeping up a bit at the intersection in anticipation of the red light changing and then accidentally hit the accelerator.  
Authorities stated that Bruns’s driver’s license was suspended. The white Volvo sedan she crashed had also been cited 12 times in two years, including four times for running a red light and four for speeding in a school zone.
