On June 27, 2016, workers at a coal plant near Cochise, Arizona, were checking on a malfunctioning rotary plow in a coal chute when they found bones and body parts, which were later matched to Ward. ^{[0] [1]}

Deputies said the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition. ^[1]

Private Ward was recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and battled with depression. ^[0]
