Derren Sorrells is a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang in South Side, Chicago.

He is a father of two.

He lives at 6000 block of South Indiana Avenue in Parkway Garden Homes a low-income housing complex known for its high level of gang violence.

Derren's older brother Darwin Sorrells Jr is also a Gangster Disciples member living the Parkway Garden Homes area.

Derren finished 11th grade at Roseland High School ^[1]

On August 26, 2016 Derren Sorrells and his older brother, Darwin Sorrells Jr fatally shot Nykea Aldridge, a mother of four and the cousin of NBA star Dwyane Wade.

The brothers fired at Nykea as she was pushing a baby stroller in the 6300 block of South Calumet at 3:30 p.m, while on her way to register her children at the Dulles School of Excellence.

Nykea was pronounced dead at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Nykea's baby and a man she was walking with were not injured in the shooting.

Nykea was hit in the crossfire as the brothers tried to shoot a man who dropped off women at a house in their neighborhood.

They targeted him only because they could tell he was not from the area.

Derren Sorrells served four years in state prison for 2012 convictions of possession of a stolen vehicle and violating the terms of his electronic monitoring.

He was paroled Aug. 12, according to the IDOC website.
