Deron Winn (born June 13, 1989 Liberty, Missouri) is a professional mixed martial arts fighter.[28]
Early Life & Education
Deron Winn was born and raised in Liberty, Missouri. He graduated from Liberty High School and Lindenwood University. At Liberty High School, he was a three-time Missouri state champion wrestler. Winn was also a two-time junior college champion wrestler and three-time All-American at Lindenwood University.[2][6]
Career
Wrestling
After wrestling in high school and university, Deron Winn trained to become an Olympic wrestler.
When he tried out Winn finished fourth at the Team USA Olympic Trials.[2]
MMA
As of July 2022 he holds a pro mixed martial arts record of 7 wins and 3 losses.
He holds wins over Tom Lawlor, Ahmed White, Cody Sons, and Antonio Arroyo.
While training to become an Olympic wrestler Deron Winn signed with Zinkin Entertainment and started focusing on mixed martial arts. He trains with Daniel Cormier, a two-division UFC champion, at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.[2]
Winn faced Gerald Meerschaert on March 7, 2020 at UFC 248.
He lost the fight via submission in the third round.
Winn was suspended for nine months and fined $1,800 of his purse by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on September 3, 2020 after testing positive for amphetamines.
The suspension was retroactive to March 7, 2020 and he became eligible to compete again on December 7, 2020.[26]
Winn faced Phil Hawes on June 18, 2022 at UFC on ESPN 37.
He lost the bout in the second round via technical knockout.
