The Corley vs. Bailey boxing match was held at the D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C. Corley successfully defended his title for the second time scoring a twelve round decision victory over the hard punching Randall Bailey.The bout was promoted along the lines that Corley was "the boxer" and Bailey was "the puncher."
Corley WBO world champion 2001-2003
Before the fight began,Corley had a record of 27 wins,1 loss,1 draw with 16 knockouts.He
had not been beaten since a fluke loss to Daniel Lujan four years earlier.Corley had
won the WBO junior welterweight world title by defeating Felix Flores on June 30, 2001 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.Bailey held a record of 26 wins and 2 losses with all of his wins coming by knockout.
The Fight
DeMarcus Corley won a unanimous decision by scores of 117-111,117-111 and 116-112.Corley boxed out of the southpaw stance and used angles to score points.Corley stated after the fight he was wary of Bailey's right hand and stated he "liked to stay in the pocket' to get the victory.The bout was televised on Showtime.
Corley was effective throughout the match be landing quick combinations and then moving out of range of Bailey's power;Corley landed many right hook out of his southpaw stance.Immediately
after the fight,Corley was interviewed by Jim Gray of Showtime in which he thanked Don King for promoting the fight.
Aftermath

In February 2005,Corley attempted to regain the WBO light welterweight belt in a fight against Miguel Cotto.Miguel Cotto vs. DeMarcus Corley ended in the fifth round with Cotto winning by tko.Although Corley lost by fifth round tko,he gave Cotto the toughest fight of his career by hurting Cotto in round four.After the Cotto fight,Corley went on a losing streak.Between 2006 and 2008,Corley dropped six straight fights.He had another six fight losing streak in 2010 and 2011.In between losses,he showed some of his old form in upset wins over Gabriel Bracero and Paul McCloskey.He beat McCloskey in front of 4,000 fans in Belfast,Northern Ireland on May 5,2012.
Bailey won the vacant International Boxing Federation junior welterweight world title on June 9,2012 at the MGM Grand Las Vegas against Mike Jones.He lost the title four months later to Devon Alexander in New York City.

Matthew O'Neil,a top ten editor and reporter for Everipedia,spoke with Corley by phone on December 11, 2019.Corley stated that "Floyd was a smart, tactical boxer and a good businessman."Corley stated that he would like to compete in bareknuckle boxing in 2020.During the interview,Corley stated that was tentatively scheduled to compete on February 1, 2020.In a followup interview in January 2020,Corley told O'Neil that he might be fighting on television on March 7th in a professional boxing match.He also stated that he has rededicated himself to training and is bringing back some of the training habits that made him a success in the early part of his career.O'Neil was on episode 18 of the Internet podcast "Split Decisions", which is an AkHi TV production out of New York City; he was interviewed by the shows hosts at the 1 hour 44th minute of the broadcast.[10] O'Neil was on a February 2020 episode of The Grueling Truth.Corley's proposed boxing match for March 2020 did not take place.
