Delrawn Small
Delrawn Small was a New York, New York native and father of three. He went by the name "Fu". Small was an ex-convict with 19 arrests and 3 terms behind bars. Zaquanna Albert was his girlfriend and mother of his three children.
Delrawn had two brothers, Ali Dempsey and another brother, Victor Dempsey who worked as a Riker's Island corrections officer.
Death
On July 4, 2016 Delrawn Small, who was unarmed, was fatally shot in front of his wife and children by Wayne Isaacs, an off duty NYPD officer, Wayne Isaacs.
At around midnight on July 4, 2016 Delrawn and the off duty police officer nearly collided cars near the intersection of near Atlantic Ave. and Bradford St. in Brooklyn, New York.
A witness said the rapidly-escalating confrontation began when Small, driving a 2016 Kia Ex, felt he was cut off by Wayne Isaacs shortly after the cop’s 4 p.m.-12 a.m. shift had come to an end.
Police say that an unreleased video captured Delrwan, who was two cars back of Isaacs, exiting his car when both vehicles reached a red light.
Small approached the driver’s side window and punched the cop twice — once in the face and once in the mouth, a high-ranking police source said.
Officer Wayne took out his service pistol and shot Delrwan twice in the torso.
According to witnesses Delrawn only yelled at the cop before the shooting and that the cop shot "on impulse".
The officer was driving a 2002 Nissan Altima.
He was treated at a local hospital for head contusions according to police.
Dempsey's two teenage girls and a newborn son were in their car.
"They saw everything."
Ali Dempsey also said that his brother, Delrawn was unarmed and was on his way to visit him.
The NYPD confirmed the shooter was an off-duty NYPD officer. Authorities have not offered any official details about the incident.
According to the NYPD, the officer involved had no prior incidents on his record and was a policeman for three years He works at the 79th Precinct in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
“He just shot (Small) right there on the street,” said witness Lloyd Banks. 43.
“Delrawn was unarmed.
His wife and kids were still in the car.
They saw everything.”
Zaquana, Delrawn's girlfriend and the mother of his children said “Words can’t begin to explain the pain I feel right now.”
She also posted on Facebook that “... My heart aches for this man and my son who will never remember his Dad.”
Delrawn's family have set up a Go Fund Me for him.
