Deborah Fallows

Deborah Fallows is a writer and a linguist.

She has written extensively on language, education, families and work, China, and travel for The Atlantic, National Geographic, Slate, and The New York Times.

Her latest book, Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin Lessons in Life, Love, and Language, is based on her three-year experience living and working in China.

She and her husband, James Fallows, are currently flying around the US in their small plane, reporting on the reinvention of small towns for The Atlantic’s American Futures project.
