David Rust is the Director of Operations at Lyft .  He is based in San Francisco .  Rust was selected to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2017 for the Consumer Technology category. 
Rust attended the University of Stanford and earned a B.S. in Environmental Engineering .  During college, he founded the Stanford Green Fund, a $30,000 per year fund to finance Stanford student projects focused on improving Stanford's renewable energy portfolio. 
Early in his career, Rust was the Business Development Manager at Reputation.com and Market Expansion & Operations Lead at Wheelz Inc. 
In 2013, he became the 25th employee at Lyft and launched Lyft's first major push into US cities such as Los Angeles, Seattle , Chicago , and Boston .  He oversaw all aspects of new city launches including driver acquisition, local and digital marketing, partnerships, and building out of local teams.  He has since spearhead initiatives, first as Senior Manager, for driver retention and loyalty programs, signing a discounted fuel deal with Shell, and driver engagement (email, social, etc.).  Later as Director of Operations, he partnered with General Motors & Hertz to launch Lyft's first vehicle rental program (Express Drive), led Lyft's first pilot in the delivery space with Walmart, launched Lyft's first high end ride service, Lyft Premier, and designed Lyft's autonomous fleet operations plan. 
Rust is on the Board of Directors of the Global Student Embassy, a non-profit that develops environmentally conscious leaders, skilled at taking action, and addressing environmental challenges in the United States, Nicaragua, and Ecuador.
