David Glasser
David Glasser, 35 years old, was a 12 year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department. David was married with a young son and daughter. He worked in the Maryvale precinct and served in the unit’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team. Members of the team are called for a wide variety of issues, from plain clothes investigations to big events. David was a major fan of the Arizona Cardinals NFL team, and enjoyed tailgating with friends and family.
Death
David Glasser died on Thursday May 19, 2016, a day after he was shot while responding to a burglary call about a son stealing guns from his father.
Glasser was shot responding to a burglary in progress call near 51st Avenue and Baseline Road around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday May 18, 2016.
Police say the suspect started shooting from a van when officers arrived.
Police returned fire, killing the suspect.
Glasser was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition.
A Phoenix helicopter brought some of his family members to the hospital and fellow officers were seen at the hospital throughout the night and on Thursday morning. Glasser died from his injuries on Thursday May 19, 2016.
