David Finfrock

David Finfrock (born May 1953) is an award-winning American Meteorologist with over forty years experience of on-air work. He is currently the senior meteorologist for NBC 5 and he was the second chief meteorologist in the history of the station. He is a science and tech nerd who graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University. He is married to Shari and two children, Jennifer and Ryan.

Education and Early Life

David Finfrock was born in May 1953 and he was brought up in Houston, Texas. Frinfrock's father love for science and earth was caused by his father who is a geologist, working for an oil company. There are times David and is Dad have to stop along the road for fossils or to identify rock minerals. While growing up, David spend a lot of time studying his father's National Geographic atlas. Frinfrock started tracing hurricanes on charts at the age of eight after the Coast of Texas was struck by Hurricane Carla in September 1961.

David Finfrock graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and also completed some graduate work while at Texas A&M.[2]

Career

David Finfrock, after engaging as a field researcher on the Juneau Icefield Research Program in Alaska, joined the service of NBC 5 in 1975 as chief meteorologist. He came a senior meteorologist in 2015.

Awards and Recognition

  • Katie Award for Best Weathercast in Texas.

  • Fort Worth Star Telegram’s Viewers Choice Award for Best Meteorologist.

  • Finalist for Emmy and Katie Awards for the work that he did as a documentary host in 2016 and 2017

  • An Emmy for the weather special, "Tracking Texas Weather" and another for his work on NBC 5's 65th Anniversary special.

  • He was awarded a "Silver Circle" Emmy award, for career achievement.[1][14][2]

Personal Life

Finfrock is married to Shari and the marriage is blessed with two children.

He also have three grandchildren, Lauren, Emily and Kyla.

Most times, Finfrock spent his vacation traveling and doing volunteer work i.e he spent a vacation with the Sierra Club in National Parks, including Guadalupe Mountains, removing barbed wire fencing, repairing trails, and cleaning up trash dumps.

He is also a member of the American Meteorology Society and the Advisory Board at the Center for Greater Southwestern Studies at University of Texas Arlington.

Social Media

Being a science and tech nerd, Finfrock is active on social media and has ability to adapt to changes in technologies despite his age.

He mostly make use of Twitter and Facebook to share his weather news, and he currently has over 23 thousand followers on Facebook and 19 thousand followers on Twitter. He also has an Instagram account with over 1 thousand followers.[12][13]
