Dave Evans (Fictiv)

Dave Evans is a hardware engineer, entrepreneur, and business executive. He is the co-founder and CEO of Fictiv, a distributed manufacturing platform that offers a streamline to prototype and accelerate the development of 3D printing and CNC machined parts.

Early Life & Education

Evans grew up in New Jersey, graduating from Blair Academy in 2007. Subsequently, he earned a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University in 2011. [1]

Upon graduating, he was the assistant coach for the men's rowing team at Stanford.

Evans started his career in hardware engineering in January 2012 when he was hired by Ford Motor Company. [1] Working in Palo Alto, California, he was the lead hardware engineer at OpenXC, an open software and hardware platform that extends customers' vehicles with custom applications and pluggable modules. [undefined] [1]

In June 2012, when Ford's Silicon Valley Lab opened, he was hired as their first employee.

In March 2013, Evans co-founded Fictiv with his brother Nathan; he is the company's CEO.

While working at Ford, Dave was inspired to create Fictiv when he realized that the prices and estimated times for delivery were radically different on three separate occasions.

He sent three different emails to the same prototyping shop.

[undefined]

After coming to this problem, Fictiv's aimed to make it easier for hardware entrepreneurs to order and receive prototype parts by connecting them to a network of 3D printers and manufacturing machinery. [undefined] They do this by matching manufacturers with customers to provide rapidly produced parts and prototypes within 72 hours. [undefined]

The company has since been labeled the "Uber for idle manufacturing machinery"[undefined] and the "Airbnb of 3-D Printing." [undefined]

Awards & Accomplishments

In late 2017, Evans was listed on the 'Big Money' list of Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2018. [undefined]
