Darryl Granberry Jr., (October 10, 1997), also known by his Hip hop moniker, DDG, is an American Recording artist, YouTuber, and Entrepreneur who's music video for the song, "Givenchy" went viral in late 2017. The song and music video became a single which increased his Social media following on his numerous YouTube channels, allowing him to also become a social media influencer. [2]

Biography

Early Life

Granberry Jr. was born and raised in the state of Michigan to parents Jaquella Granberry and Darryl Granberry Sr. [18] [15] During his childhood and well into his teenage years he grew up in the city of Pontiac. [15] He attended the academy of Waterford as a child. [15]

He graduated valedictorian from his High School.

After high school, he attended Central Michigan University until he dropped out. [15]

Work

One of Granberry Jr.'s first jobs as a young teenager which he held for quite some time was being a grocer at a Kroger's, a supermarket located near his hometown of Pontiac. [2] Once he started receiving popularity for his youtube videos, he quit his job as a grocer and took making videos full-time on youtube. [3] [4] [5]

At the age of 18, he started making enough money so that he could also quit college.

He has said in interviews that he has a Coinbase account, that is, he is into Cryptocurrency. He has also mentioned he is into Real estate also. [2]

Social Media

Granberry Jr. started out as a YouTuber some time in 2014, and he would post videos and vlog about his personal life and other activities. [3] [4] [5] He has about four youtube channels where he uploads video content frequently to each one. Granberry Jr. has accumulated hundreds of millions of views from all of his channels. As of November 2019, Darryl has 1.6 million subscribers on his PontiacMadeDDG channel and 1.8 million subscribers on his PontiacMadeDDG VLOGS channel on YouTube.[3][4] He has 2.6 million followers on Instagram.[19]

As his Social Media presence made Granberry Jr. stand out for his entertaining video content, he drew closer and closer to sharing his passion for rap and hip hop and in 2015, he began to upload songs onto his SoundCloud page. [6]

The first batch of songs he shared on his Soundcloud were: "Dope"; "G.O.A.T.";

"Balenciagas" [Prod. By

Zaytoven]; and "Free Parties". [6]

In early 2017, Granberry Jr. started using "DDG" as his main hip hop Moniker in his songs.

He released "The Reals" which has since gotten close to a million views.

He then released the song, "I do a lot".

Later in the year he made the move to Los Angeles, California to produce several songs which include the following: "BIG BOAT (Lil Yachty Diss Track)"; "No Pockets"; "Rubbin' Off The Paint (YBN Nahmir Remix)". [6]

On June 17, 2019, DDG released his new music video Hold Up. The video gained over 10 million views in less than two months.[24]

Viral Stardom

Since DDG's collaboration with Famous Dex in his song, "Lettuce", which has reached more than a million views, his following expanded and blossomed in the month of October, 2017. [6]

"Givenchy"

In early December, 2017, DDG released the song, "Givenchy", which has since gone viral on the internet with more than 15 million views.

The video was officially released by World Star Hip Hop.

On January 2nd, 2018, an interview with Genius was released as a way to leverage the meaning of the song. In the interview, DDG speaks about his humble beginnings working as a grocer. He goes on to give annotations to the lyrics. [2]

"Valedictorian"

In early November 2019, DDG released his debut studio album Valedictorian. The project spans 18 tracks, and includes guest appearances by Young Nudy, Blac Youngsta, G Herbo, YBN Nahmir, and more.[25]

In the interview to Complex.com, DDG said:

"I've got a lot of songs, so it's a lot of songs that didn't make the project," he said.

"But the ones that I picked out, I wanted to just show my versatility and everything different about my music...

It was all about just being versatile, because not only do I want to just show my skills and being able to switch it up, but I want to see what people like from me—what type of style people gravitate towards the most."[25]

DDG has also released the official video for "Push," a standout track from the album.[25]

Personal Life

Darryl began dating YouTuber Kennedy Cymone in 2017 and proposed in April of 2018. They were engaged briefly before the couple broke up in the summer of 2018.[9]
