Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson was an inmate at the Caddo County Jail in Oklahoma where he was choked to death by two correctional officers in his jail cell.
Robinson is the father of eight children and in the past has been arrested for drug possession and distribution.
Death
Robinson was in jail for failure to pay child support from cases dating back to the late 90's.
[11]Before he entered his cell, he notified correctional staff that he may go through withdrawals from his Xanax prescription.
[6]While in his cell, he did end up having a manic episode of withdrawal.
[7] [10]Two corrections officers, Michael Allen Smith and Vicki Richardson,entered the cell and used excessive force and pepper spray to restrain him.
[9]Smith ended up choking Robinson the point that he was convulsing and foaming at the mouth.
[4]Although Robinson was in clear need of medical attention, he was still put in handcuffs as the officers took turns holding him down.
[9]When paramedics did arrive to the scene they reported that he had no pulse; Darius was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The autopsy report declares Robinson's death a homicide.
His injuries that lead to his death included a broken neck, several hemorrhages, and abrasions from his handcuffs.
His probable cause of death is listed as asphyxiation due to โmanual compression of neck.โ
The family has stated that officials lied about the circumstances involving Robinson's death, stating that he died of a heart attack and did not mention any physical force.
