Daniel Burke is an American journalist based in Washington, D.C. He is CNN's Religion Editor, where he writes in-depth news and analysis pieces while editing the award-winning religion section, CNN Belief. [1]
Education
Daniel Burke (Journalist) graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor's degree in literature and psychology. He went on to attend Columbia University, graduating in the dual-degree program earning an M.S. in journalism and M.A. in comparative religion. [1]
Career
Daniel Burke (Journalist) has written about Pope Francis' period of exile in Argentina, America's long history of Islamophobia and a Bible Belt family's conversion to atheism. He has also written about the moral questions that arose after he narrowly avoided a train crash, explored why religion is so divisive and investigated mysterious provenance of the Bible Museum's Dead Sea Scroll fragments. In 2016, Burke contributed to CNN's political coverage, writing profiles of Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton.
He also analyzed the "7 types of Evangelicals" and wrote about how American Muslims viewed the election results. [1]
Before coming to CNN, Burke was a reporter and editor at Religion News Service. Burke has been honored multiple times by the American Academy of Religion for best in-depth reporting on religion. He's been a finalist for the Religion Newswriters Association's top awards every year since 2010.
