Danhausen is an independent wrestler that has been active in the indie circuit since 2013. He has traveled North America and wrestles in locations all over the continent. He is a singles wrestler, but has also participated in tag team tournaments.

His debut as Donovan Danhausen was in Metro Pro Wrestling. His first professional fight was held at Rookie's Bar & Grill in Wyandotte, Michigan on October 18, 2013 against Austin Manix.[24]

Birth of Danhausen

Around 2019 Donovan became Danhausen, a very nice, very evil wrestling persona that carries a jar of teeth with him.

Danhausen wears face makeup, speaks in the third person, and likes to end words in 'hausen'.

He also likes to put said jarred teeth into his opponents mouths and kick them in the face, launching the teeth across the ring.[26]

In an article published in the winter of 2019, Danhausen was featured as the Indie Wrestler of the Week on fansided.com.

He described the inspiration for the character in an interview, stating,[60]

"My character came from frustration of trying to please everyone else by trying to be something I’m not.

I was sick of just being a guy who wrestles, I didn’t care anymore what people thought of me, I just wanted to make sure I was enjoying what I loved doing again.

Inspiration wise, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Batman (1989), What We Do In The Shadows, The Simpsons, Conan O’Brien."

Danhausen does not enjoy partaking in alcoholic beverages like beer and White Claw.

He often spits them out, saying the drinks are 'too spicy.' He also refers to such liquids as 'spicy water'.[59]

His preferred method of transport is by blimp, but he has also traveled via a very miniature toy plane aptly named the Spruce Moose, a moniker coined by one Montgomery Burns.[89]

Danhausen dislikes swearing and is known to point out those cursing with his catchphrase, "No Swearing!" He has granted few swear passes throughout his career, which allow others to curse around him.[27][33]

He is a fanhausen of Pee-wee Herman and has been known to use The Champs' hit song Tequila! in similar fashion, except Danhausen throws in a couple kicks to his opponent's heads.[28][56]

Media Appearances

On February 16, 2020 Ross Tweddell of Cultaholic chatted with the wrestler in an interview titled "STRAIGHT TO HELL: Danhausen."

Over the course of their conversation, Tweddell and Danhausen discussed what 5 things about wrestling that Danhausen would like to send down below.

Ring of Honor (ROH)

Danhausen made his very nice, very evil television debut on Ring of Honor in November of 2019. Due to popular demandhausen, he was invited to return for a second appearance with the promotion in January of 2020. Prior to his second appearance, Danhausen cut a promo video asking for ROH to provide him blimp transportation and a sack full of $1 million dollars human money.[86][87]

In the spring of 2020 Danhausen began courting Ring of Honor with the hopes of signing to the roster.

He posted several comical videos featuring various wrestlers in the promotion of him pleading with them to 'just ask' their boss for a job.

The #HireDanhausen hashtag was used repeatedly and on May 25, 2020 Ring of Honor and Marty Scurll released a video, telling Danhausen they'd consider hiring the inter-dimensional celebrity if he was able to prove to Scurll that he could 'make money' and sell enough Ring of Hausen tshirts from the ROH store. Marty challenged Danhausen by stating,[117][118][120]

"I am in the wrestling business, okay?

if you want a job you need to tell me how you make money-and unfortunately for you, funny doesn't make money, does it?

I'll tell you what we're gonna do.

We will release a Danhausen tshirt, okay?

And if it sells well maybe, just maybe I'll consider putting your name in for a job recommendation."

WARHAUSEN

Along with fellow indie wrestler WARHORSE, Danhausen is a member of the tag team duo WARHAUSEN. The two wrestlers come in at a combined weight of 666 pounds and are the epitome of 'lawful evil and chaotic good.'[80]

Wrestlevania

WARHAUSEN also host an annual horror themed wrestling show called Wrestlevania, presented by Game Changer Wrestling (GCW).

The event will be held in Tampa, Florida at The Cuban Club on Saturday, April 4, 2020. Wrestlers including Allie Kat (Allie Bat), AJ Gray, Effy, and Jake Something will be at Wrestlevania. Matches include a Vampire Death Match and a Loser Gets Sacrificed To Satan match.[81][82]

In a January 2020 interview with Wrestling Inc., Danhausen discussed the birth of Wrestlevania,[85]

"WARHORSE came to me and said, 'Hey I wanna do a show called WrestleVania at some point.' Then we got presented with the idea to actually do it out of nowhere almost.

We already had the name a week prior and when they [approached us], we were like, 'Yeah that's cool and we already have a name for it.' We're trying to make our show stand out and we have some stuff that we're working out with it to see if it will go through.

But it's gonna be heavy metal-based and horror movie, spooky, fun comedy.

It will be bizarre."

Wrestlevania was unfortunately postponed due to the Covid19 pandemic.

Personal Life

Donovan Danhausen is married to burlesque dancer and performer Lou Lou la Duchesse de Rière. The two often travel together and sometimes perform at the same events.[22]

Social Media

Danhausen is a social media personality as well. On Twitter he has over 19,900 followers as of June 2020. He often posts his upcoming indie wrestling gigs, interacts with his fanhausens, and uploads very Danhausen-esque wrestling promos-many of which feature music by Rihanna.[53]

He also has a Patreon where he uploads a variety of content that is sorted in nine price tiers ranging from $1-$1,000 a month. Subscribers who pay $5 a month receive access to Danhausen programming, including Reviewhausen, and his cooking show, Dining With Danhausen. He also has an interview show called Goodnighthausen with Danhausen. Danhausen's goal is to be able to raise $2,000 a month to be able to transition out of what he calls 'normal human work' to become a full time wrestler with the freedom to travel and see his family. When the goalhausen is met Danhausen promises to provide exclusive merch deals and more behind the scenes wrestling content, including glimpses into Danhausen's daily life.[36]

On Instagram Danhausen posts many photographs featuring fellow wrestlers and his wife Lou Lou. He has over 8,905 followers on the platform as of May 2020.[52]

Reception

Beloved WWE wrestler Mick Foley has tweeted about Danhausen, with a January 4, 2020 message that read,[54]

A random shoutout to @DanhausenAD for putting 100% into his character, creating interest, and delivering in-ring for every audience.

He grabbed the bullhausen by the hornhausen and got himself overhausen!

Danhausen replied to the tweet stating that it 'meant the worldhausen' to him.[55]

AEW Rumors

On February 29, 2020 an article was published on Wrestling Inc. announcing that Cody Rhodes of All Elite Wrestling had mentioned Danhausen as one of the artists he is interested in signing to the promotion. In an Ask Me Anything, Rhodes was asked the question of what indie wrestlers he was interested in, the statement read,[99]

"He has to ask Ethan Page about Danhausen and says both those guys are DIY guys he wants.

Notes Ethan is with Impact and he wanted him.

Says he’ll look at WARHORSE soon."

In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Pro Wrestling that was published on March 11, 2020, Danhausen was asked about being a free agent and replied,[103]

"No!

Danhausen is a freehausen agent!

Flying free all over the world!"

In the same interview Sapp also asked Danhausen his thoughts on Cody Rhodes' possible interest in Danhausen's very nice, very evil persona,[104]

"YES!

Danhausen will take ALL CONTRACTS!

They make Danhausen even more famous!

Put him on television.

Danhausen loves all the great fans, they give him great arts of sorts.

Danhausen says he's got lots of friends in AEW of sorts.

Danhausen would love to -- except that MJF, man.

He's very evil, very evil.

One time Danhausen licked MJF and kicked him in the face!"

Trivia

In one of Danhausen's first wrestling matches he wanted to come out as Donovan Danhausen.

The promoter told him that his name was too hard to pronounce, and seeing the monogram DD on Danhausen's wrestling trunks, stated that Danhausen was to come out to the ring as Donovan Danger.[58]

During the Covid19 outbreak, Danhausen (along many others worldwide) had multiple cancellations across North America, including Wrestlevania.[106][107]

In mid May of 2020 Danhausen had received a couple notable Cameos from popular Hollywood figures Andy Dick and Gilbert Gottfried.[108][109] The Gottfried video had even generated a headline on the WrestleZone website that read "Gilbert Gottfried Tells Ring Of Honor To Hire Danhausen".[110] Both actors called for Ring of Honor (ROH) to hire Danhausen and to add him to their wrestling roster.
