Michelle Tropez (born Michelle Elisa Cohen September 13, 1993) is an American singer-songwriter, producer, musician, actress, copywriter, real estate developer and entrepreneur. [4]
Early life
Tropez was born in Houston, Texas to John Cohen, a carpenter, and Tina Cohen, an interior designer. She has two elder brothers, Jason and Eric. She is of French, Tunisian and Polish decent, and holds both American and Canadian citizenship. Tropez began writing songs and playing music at the age of 16, after teaching herself to play guitar and piano. She has stated that music was her "source of solace and inspiration" and the one outlet she found where she could "truly be herself".
Education
Michelle Tropez attended Bellaire High School (Texas) in Bellaire, Texas, where she was a prominent figure in her high school's theatre department. She performed in state-wide competitions for her school, and won a "Best Actress" award two times, back-to-back in annual competitions.
Tropez graduated with a 4.0 GPA and went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, studying Theatre and Economics.
Career
While in Austin, Tropez spent her time outside the classroom writing lyrics for other musicians and playing piano at local bars and clubs. She dropped out after one year of studies to pursue music full time.
Tropez relocated back to her hometown and worked in furniture sales while recording her debut album.
She maintained full-time employment while attending Houston Community College, where she studied Audio Engineering, Arranging and Music composition. Upon completing her debut EP album "The DandyLand EP," Tropez moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her music career and to release the first single, "White and Black Keys". Her music is most recognizable by her signature Pop, Synthpop, and Electropop sound filled with colorful melodies and catchy, upbeat lyrics.
In June 2017, Tropez released her self-produced debut EP, "The DandyLand EP" along with a music video for her second single, "Kings".
In 2018, Tropez released the singles "Not so Typical," "Cheerio Darling," "Big Blue Eyes," "Love you More," and "End of Time" under her original stage name, Dandy.
In 2019, she reinvented herself, shifting her sound to modern future bass, trap, techno, and chill-step genres.
She took on the name Michelle Tropez, as an homage to her French heritage and the travel destination known for it's luxurious beaches and extravagant nightlife.
