Damian Herrera is a former college student at the University of New Mexico. Damian Herrera was arrested on June 15, 2017, after committing a mass shooting in New Mexico. ^[1]

On June 15, 2017, just before 3:30 p.m., Herrera got into an argument with his stepfather, Max Trujillo Sr., over using a pickup truck which led to him shooting Max dead, along with his brother, Brendon Herrera, and mother Maria Rosita Gallegos. ^[1]

At about 5:45 p.m., authorities received a call about a shooting in Tres Piedras, New Mexico. Herrera had killed Michael Kyte and hijacked his Chevrolet pickup. Kyte had picked up Herrera after flagging him down in need of gas. ^[1]

Herrera then drove to Abiquiú, New Mexico where he gunned down Manuel Serrano at the Bode's General Store around 8:15 p.m. ^[1]

Herrera was caught after sheriff’s deputies spotted the stolen pickup and chased it.

He was speeding through a curve when the truck veered into oncoming traffic, overcorrected and crashed into a tree.

Herrera got out and ran toward the deputies.

He tried to grab one of their handguns firing one. A second deputy used a stun gun on Herrera, and he was taken into custody. An officer hurt his elbow but there were no other injuries. ^[1]

Herrera is being held on a no-bond hold.

He is being charged with 5 counts of open murder.

Herrera has no criminal history, just two traffic citations in the past two years. ^[1] Friends described him as being into mediation and enjoyed the outdoors.
