Cristy Campbell

Cristy Campbell

Cristy Lynn Brueggemann Campbell was a woman from Glen Carbon, Illinois whose body was recovered near Silver Lake on the outskirts of Highland, Illinois.

Early Life & Personal

Cristy was born and raised in the state of Illinois near the Edwardsville area. She lived in the area for most of her life.

Growing up she attended Edwarsville Middle School which has since been renamed to Lincoln Middle School.

She then attended Edwardsville High School. [1]

Marriage

With her family.

In 2002, Cristy Brueggemann had her first child with Justin Campbell, and later got married in 2006.

A trail of domestic disturbances and abuse that lasted years ensued.

In 2005, Justin was charged with felony aggravated domestic violence, which was later reduced to a misdemeanor in exchange for a guilty plea.

The charge states that he slapped Cristy, whom he knew to be pregnant at the time.

He paid a fine of $500 and was placed on probation for a year.

The couple filed for divorce in 2010, but changed their minds and ended the proceedings.

Cristy requested an order of protection against Justin Campbell in April 2012, but requested that it be allowed to expire 15 days later.

She filed for divorce again in September 2012.

Justin failed to respond to the filing before the court date in 2013, according to court records, and it was finalized without his participation.

The divorce included provisions for child support and visitation.

A year later, Cristy requested supervised visitation for her ex-husband, alleging that two of the children told her he had pinched, punched and choked them.

The court ordered that Justin’s visitation would take place at the Kids’ Corner, a court-sanctioned neutral location.

There have been no changes in the Campbells’ divorce case since 2014.

In the same year, Glen Carbon Police charged Cristy after she allegedly allowed a 5-year-old child to leave their home on Dogwood Lane and wander unattended.

Cristy Campbell attended parenting classes and the charge was dropped.

Neither of the Campbells had any other criminal history in Madison County, save for traffic tickets.

Children

The couple had 7 children together:

Justin - age 14 (8th Grade) Robbie - age 13 (7th Grade) Madelynn - age 11 (5th Grade) Christian - age 10 (4th Grade) Mya'lynn- age 7 (1st Grade) Jeremiah - age 4 1/2 Julian - 3 months [1]

House Fire

In the early morning of March 16th, 2017, authorities were notified that Cristy's house was burning.

The six children that were inside the house at the time escaped.

Some of the children ran to a nearby Wal Mart to call 911. The children said their father, Justin, was still inside.

House was fully on fire and firefighters could not safely enter until they had put out the fire.

The body was taken out of the house around the afternoon.

A surveillance video obtained from a neighbor shows an SUV's headlights switching on in the driveway of the house about 4:50 a.m.

Several minutes later, the SUV backs out of the driveway.

About 3 minutes later, a reflection from the flames of the burning house can be seen on the side of a nearby house.

Four children run across the street, heading in the direction of Wal-Mart.

The smallest child is carrying a blanket.

Death At Silver Lake

Cristy had her three month-old baby with her when she left the house to burn.

She was being sought as a person of interest in regards to the fire and the death of Justin.

Around 5:30 a.m. about 16 miles east of the Glen Carbon house, a 911 caller notified the Madison County Sheriff's Office that a vehicle had driven into Silver Lake, off Route 143.

Highland EMS made it to the lake first and paramedic Todd Zobrist rushed into the cold water and searched the vehicle.

Cristy was found dead at the scene.

The baby boy was taken to a St. Louis hospital for treatment after being pulled from the SUV in Silver Lake around 6 a.m.

He was expected to make a full recovery and to be released Friday, Madison County Sheriff John Lakin said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

No further details about her death has been released.
