Background
Craig Hanaumi (Police Officer) was born and raised in Oahu, Hawaii, Hanaumi draws much of his dedication to public service from his parents. His father worked for the U.S. Department of Labor and his mother was a public school teacher. His mother's dedication to helping students and the community through her teaching is what Officer Hanaumi mentions as his influence of why he loves doing his service for the community.
From the ages 10-13, all officer Hanaumi did everyday was skateboard.
Most of the time he had to trespass as there weren't any skateparks around.
Being an officer that gets to skate with teenagers now, he understands what it's like, and it makes him feel like a kid again.
Education
He graduated from University of Hawaii with a bachelor of arts in Psychology.
Career
After graduation, he took on several different types of jobs until he ultimately applied for the Honolulu Police Department as his cousins also applied. He joined the forced during his late 20s.
Bellevue, Washington
In 2006, Hanaumi moved to Washington, where he joined the Bellevue Police Department. A portion of his job with the Bellevue Police Department is outreach to the local community.
For most of his career as a police officer in the city of Bellevue, officer Hanaumi has made a reputation of becoming the most popular cop in the whole state of Washington for his efforts of strengthening good vibes among troubled youths through the use of Skateboarding.
He makes weekly visits to skateparks where he is now welcomed with opened arms, and joins in the fun.
Officer Hanaumi also involves himself in endless activities with trouble youths and other members of the community.
He also makes visits to classrooms in the music department and jams with the students by playing his Trombone. He also plays the instruments at community events as well.
Another activity he is keen on practicing with people in the community is Brazilian jiu jitsu, a martial art he is a blue belt in. He assists by providing support as the martial art is great for self-defense.
He often says: "it's the closest job to Batman... You get to work in a vehicle with cool equipment and fight crime." He often gives citizens rides, buys someone lunch, and other gestures to prove that officers mean well in the community.
The police department has allowed him to post videos on his Instagram account to show the good qualities officers in uniform are doing within the community. His photos often show him participating in the community, interacting with kids, and of course, skateboarding.
