Cookie Money

Cookie Money is a rapper from East Oakland, California. Cookie Money spins hardened street tales with a lithe but menacing monotone. He has worked with artists such as Young Dolph, Boosie Badazz, YG and more. Most recently, Cookie released "Cookie World 2.5" featuring Young Dolph, E-40 and Philthy Rich. He has released a total of 10 albums between 2014 and 2020[1]

Early Life

Cookie Money was born In Oakland, California, where he quickly adapted to the street life when his father was sent to jail for 11 years. Raised in a single-parent household and shaped by a tough upbringing, he spent his younger years hustling for his family and surviving gun violence. [1]

From a somewhat comfortable home situation to moving to the hood, Cookie was forced to learn to hold his own.

Very early Cookie learned how traumatic the hood can be when he lost his friend (Anthony Butler) right before his eyes to gun violence.

Viewing Anthony's death changed Cookie's outlook on the streets, from there he knew he had to get out before the same thing happened to him.

Soon after Anthony's death Cookie lost his great-grandfather (Isaac) and his grandmother (Leola) who were very influential in his life and practically raised him while his father was gone and his mother was at work.

Cookie tried to hide the street life from his grandparents as they always told him "drug dealers don't retire".

Along with all the deaths, Cookie's luck began to run out.

He found himself in various life threatening situations as well as trouble with law enforcement.

Facing penitentiary time, Cookie knew it was finally time to leave the streets cold turkey.

Probation requirements forced Cookie to get a job at Whole Foods Market and he quickly learned that working was going to never work for him.

Thinking about what he was going to do next, Cookie met a DJ by the name of Mustard at a nightclub who suggested Cookie should rap because he had the "look".

Cookie hit DJ Mustard up for beats and booked 90 days in a studio to learn to rap on them.[4]

Career

He started rapping after receiving encouragement from DJ Mustard, issuing early singles like "Hatin' on Me," "Turnt Up" with YG, and "Yo Bitch" and "Gold Rims on My Aston" with frequent collaborator Philthy Rich. His debut mixtape, Cookie World, arrived in 2014. A sequel, Cookie World 2, was issued in 2016 and featured guests like Boosie Badazz and Rich The Kid. His breakthrough came in 2017 with the stirring single "Pops Died Last Week" and Cookie World 2.5, which recruited Young Dolph and E-40, and featured production from Zaytoven.[1]

In 2018, he released another project titled "Rich Orphan".[5] He puts the album down on ten total tracks for the traps and trunks, including the dope cuts “Mob Ties” and “For The Love Of Money”, as well the smash single “True Colors”, which has amassed over 950,000 views on YouTube. He followed it up with another project titled "A Doughboy's Dream " in 2019.
