Consortium News or Consortiumnews.com is an independent, alternative news and current affairs organization based in the United States that was founded in 1995 by Robert Parry as the first investigative news magazine based on the internet.

Parry saw Consortium news as an answer to a crisis building in U.S. news media concerning groupthink on issues where factual information was being ignored because it didn't fit with the narratives of those in power.

It aims to be a new media platform for well reported stories that challenge misguided conventional wisdoms.

Early articles reecamined issues of the 1980s inlcluding evidence of Nicaraguan contra-cocaine trafficking and the “October surprise” controversy from Election 1980.

Currently, they produce groundbreaking journalism on many significant issues, including politics, the environment, national security and foreign policy.

They also promote alternate views, support other investigative journalists such as Seymour Hersh and look at underlying problems in modern democracy such as manipulation of citizens by government propaganda.

Parry wrote about Consortium News *"Now, even as the fate of the world becomes more tenuous amid a resumption of Cold War tensions between the West and Russia, we are seeing the Western media engaging in a self-inflicted blindness that has left the West’s citizens blind as well.
