Joshua Tyler Huie, who raps by the name Clever, is an American rapper from Gadsden, Alabama. His name originated from a lyric he used during a battle rap at the Elk's Lodge: "You can call me Clever, because I won’t see an 'L′ ever." ^[1]

Clever (rapper) grew up in Gasden, Alabama and attended Emma Sansom High School where he was an avid baseball player. At the age of 13, he found his love for rapping, just playing around with rhymes and having fun.

In an Instagram post, Clever revealed that he'd been arrested 8 times before, including once for making an explosive device. ^[10]

At 15, he stumbled across the BET show 106 & Park and channeled his creative energy into battle rapping, eventually appearing on the show in 2006. Prior to that he was a champion on Nick Nice’s “Spittin’ Ice” on radio station WQEN 103.7. He was part of “Draztik,” a battle rap group that won many awards, even maintaining a seven win winning streak at the Elk’s Lodge.

Clever is affiliated with record Producer Fredwreck and was featured on “Payday,” a song by Snoop Dogg's Tha Eastsidaz group in 2014. His oldest available song on digital platforms is called "Nobody Can Save You” and features Funk Volume affiliate SwizZz. Just before the end of 2020, Clever will be dropping his new album Crazy. The announcement was made with the cover artwork being revealed, showing a bloodied skull on rocks with a crow sitting atop it. Clever also changed his handle on social media to coincide with the album's title, which will drop on December 8, 2020.^[12]
