Clarence L. Briggs (April 17, 1961 - March 20, 2016) was a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper. He was a State Trooper for 22 years before retiring in 2012. After retiring from the police force, he worked for a gun manufacturer. He was married.
Briggs and his wife filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy in 2015, listing more than $75,000 in credit card debt.
Allegations
In March 2014 Briggs was arrested on charges of simple assault and harassment.
The case was later dismissed in July 2014.
On March 20, 2016 he attempted to rob a toll collector on the Fort Littleton Exchange.
He shot and killed two state employees and stole a fare collection truck.
While Briggs was unloading money into his vehicle, a state trooper arrived at the scene.
The Trooper exchanged fire with Briggs and Briggs was shot, The trooper was not injured.
Of the two men he killed, one was a toll collector for 3 months and the other had been a worker for a few decades.
