Funk was a choir teacher at West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan district school until being put on leave after her initial arrest in late February 2017. ^{[undefined] [1]}

On July 25, 2017, Funk was arrested and charged with having sex with a student at least three times while she was in a position of authority over him. ^[1] She is also accused of sending the teen semi-nude photos of herself. ^[1]

She has been charged with three felony counts of criminal sexual conduct.
