Christie Smythe is a law and business journalist that specializes in legal battles, regulatory actions, and the insurance industry. She is based in New York City. Smythe is a graduate of St. Teresa's Academy. She attended the University of Missouri where she was a writer for the student-run newspaper, The Maneater. She graduated in 2005 with a degree in journalism. Smythe would earn an MS in business and economic journalism form the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2017.
Early in her career, Smythe was a freelance reporter for the St. Louis Business Journal, a reporter for the Cape Cod Times, and a reporter for the Arizona Daily Star. She joined Portfolio Media in 2008 and was both an assistant managing editor and New York courts correspondent for Law360 Newswire. In 2012, Smythe joined Bloomberg L.P. as a legal reporter and covered cover legal and regulatory issues involving companies and business people. While at Bloomberg, in 2015, she broke the story on Shkreli being arrested which became the most read story on Bloomberg for that year. Smythe became an Associate Editor at The Insurance Insider in October 2018.
