Christian Catalini

Christian Catalini is the Theodore T. Miller Career Development Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an Assistant Professor of Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. [1]

Education

Christian attended Bocconi University and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's in Economics of international markets in 2004 and new technologies and summa cum laude in Economics and management of international markets and new technologies in 2006. [1] He holds a PhD from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto which he attained in 2013. [1]

Career

Early in his career, Christian was a Researcher at Bocconi University, Chief Scientist of brainmaven Research Inc., a Tech Advisor to The Next 36, and was the Associate Director of the Creative Destruction Lab. [1] He joined the staff of MIT in 2013 first as an Assistant Professor, and then as an Associate Professor. [1] His research focuses on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, the economics of equity crowdfunding and startup growth, and the economics of scientific collaboration. In the fall of 2014, Christian was one of the principal investigators of the MIT Digital Currencies Research Study. He is also part of the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy and the recently launched Digital Currency Initiative.

Christian's work has been featured in Nature, Science Magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, WIRED, NPR, Forbes, Bloomberg, TechCrunch, the Chicago Tribune, The Boston Globe, and Vice. Christian has presented his research at a variety of institutions including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, London Business School, New York University, UC Berkeley, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the US Treasury, the World Bank, and the White House OSTP.
