Chris Fischer

Chris Fischer

This unique system provides unparalleled access for scientists to conduct unprecedented live marine research.

He has disrupted conventional thinking around research, media awareness, fundraising and open-sourcing of knowledge to achieve unprecedented results.

Fischer has engaged over 50 scientists from over 20 international and regional institutions to date in a collaborative quest for accelerating the speed at which critical data is generated.

His ultimate goal is to explode the body of knowledge forward by enabling scientists and governments around the globe to generate groundbreaking data on the ocean’s apex predators, while advancing STEM education through a dynamic shark-based curriculum.

Chris conceived the idea of a K-12 STEM educational curriculum, based on the OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker, with the goal of allowing students and the public to track and learn about sharks real time, side by side with the brightest PhDs in the world.

The initial phase of the curriculum, for grades 6-8, launched in August of 2013. Fischer and OCEARCH have been featured in over 5,000 news stories by virtually every major news outlet around the world.

He has been interviewed by Charlie Rose and chronicled in series television by The National Geographic Channel and HISTORY.

Fischer believes that inclusiveness is inspiring and education is the key to generational change.
