Chloé Pourmorady
Chloé Miriam Pourmorady (Farsi: كلوى مريم پورمرادى) is an Iranian-American Jewish singer, violinist, and composer based in Los Angeles, California, as well as leader of the Chloé Pourmorady Ensemble. [0] [1]
Early Life and Education
Pourmorady was born to Iranian Jewish immigrants in Los Angeles. Pourmorady has been playing violin since the age of nine, and counts her father, attorney and self-taught musician Kourosh Pourmorady (Farsi: كورش پورمرادى), as one of her greatest musical influences. Pourmorady attended Sinai Akiba Academy and then went on to earn a BA in Music from Loyola Marymount University where she played classical music in its chamber ensembles. Pourmorady later studied the Kodály method at New York University and at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét, Hungary. [6] [7] [8]
Music
Though a classically-trained musician, Pourmorady's unique style developed as she traveled the world and studied the folk music of places such as the Balkans, Czechia, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. Pourmorady now describes her style as "Persian-Fusion," which draws heavily on her Persian and Sephardic heritage and incorporates elements of Balkan, Klezmer, Romani, Turkish, and rock music.
