Harvey Thompson, better known as Chime, is a British electronic music producer, DJ, and record label head based in Leeds. [1] He is known for intertwining melodic dubstep and heavy bass in his music and taking inspiration from video games. [9] Chime has released music on major labels such as Firepower Records, featured on the UKF Music YouTube Channel, and started his own label/collective, Rushdown. [8]

Career Beginnings

Chime originally started producing in the early 2010's and has taken on different aliases and genres, first creating drum and bass and later transitioning to dubstep . He was part of the duo Caution & Crisis which gained traction through a series of online DJ videos and video game music remixes. Most notably, two remix from Minecraft’s soundtrack. [9]
He next embarked on a solo career under the alias Dec3mber.
Thompson would grow his own audience through his relationship with EDM.com, winning a high profile Never Say Die Records Dj competition, and releasing producer tools with Total Samples that became a #1 best-seller on Prime Loops, a leading sample pack distributor. [9]

In late 2015, Thompson would rebrand himself as his current incarnation, Chime.
[9]The year, he would debut his new alias on Firepower Records releasing the single "Rockin" with Spanish producer Different Heaven which was followed by the track "Offensive". Chime released his first EP with the label titledFrom Fairies To FireEP which gained support from the UKF Music YouTube Channel. [8]He would go on to release a number of EPs includingInvincible(2017),Experience Points(2018),Featherweight(2018),Whirlwind(2018), andEvolve(2018). [1]
Chime regularly releases music on labels such as Kinphonic, Most Addictive Records, NoCopyrightSounds, and Daily Earfood and has had his music featured on prominent YouTube channels such as UKF, DubstepGutter, NoCopyrightSounds, MrSuicideSheep, Most Addictive Music, among others.
In addition, Chime founded his own label/collective, Rundown, which specializes in releasing melodic and colorful bass music.
Influences
Chime credits Skrillex's Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites for inspiring him to fuse melodic tones and heavy bass together and states Fox Stevenson to be his biggest influence on the light sound side. [5]He also takes melodic influence from Seven Lions, Virtual Riot, Porter Robinson, Haywyre, Au5, Xilent, and Fractal. [5] On the darker/heavy bass side, Chime takes inspiration from Zomboy, EPTIC, MUST DIE!, Herobust, and Barely Alive. [5]A huge influence on Chime is music and sounds from video games. [9]
