Chief Avrol Looking Horse is the 19th Generation Keeper of the Original Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota Nation of the Sioux.

Chief Avrol Looking Horse was born in 1954 of the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
At the age of 12, he became the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe, the youngest ever.
He is acknowledged as a chief and the spiritual leader of all three branches of the Sioux tribe.
Throughout his tenure as chief, he has primarily worked towards religious freedom, cultural survival and revival.
Some notable aspects of his career include in 1993 traveling to New York with Elders of different Nations for the United Nations"Cry of the Earth" Conference where he did the opening prayer.
In 1995, Chief Looking Horse met with the Dalai Lama to establish a relationship between Tibet and the Lakota Nation.
[9]He is an active participant in World Peace and Prayer Day and has guided ceremonies over the past several decades.
Furthermore, Chief Looking Horse is the founder of Big Foot Riders which memorializes the massacre of Big Foot's band at Wounded Knee.
Chief Looking Horse has lectured in several institutions of higher education, including Harvard University, Yale University, Stanford University; University of California Los Angeles, and many more colleges as well as for organizations, conferences, and symposiums.
Also, he is the author of White Buffalo Teachings and a guest columnist for Indian Country Today.
Open Letter to Obama Regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline
On October 28th, Chief Looking Horse authored an open letter to Barack Obama concerning the building of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
In it, he says *"When you met with our people on your campaign trail in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, you stated that you are a lawyer and understand treaty documents.
You told us that you realized our treaties were violated and you would address these violations against our people if you became President."* He explains the spiritual importance of one keeping their word, and pleads to Obama to do the same.
