According to a source, who spoke to The Sun about the couple’s baby news, both Sheeran and Seaborn are “overjoyed” about the pregnancy, noting that she is already in the final stages of her pregnancy. “Ed and Cherry are over the moon. They’re very excited, but have kept things very low-key,” the source continued, adding that the couple haven’t often been spotted for the past months as they’ve been spending much of their time amid the pandemic at their Suffolk home. “Lockdown was a perfect excuse not to be seen out and about too much, but things are getting closer and the excitement has been building so they have started telling friends and family. They’re just making the last of the preparations at home, and the baby is expected later this summer,” the source said. [18][19]
On September 1, Sheeran announced on social media that his wife had given birth to a baby girl named Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
They welcomed their firstborn the previous week.
Sheeran said that he and Seaborn are totally in love with their daughter.
The singer also urged his fans to respect their privacy at this time.[21][22]
The first name, Lyra, is thought to be a direct tribute to Ed's favourite series of books, His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. The main character in the novels is Lyra Belacqua, a young girl who finds herself fighting in a cosmic war. In 2015, Ed tweeted about his love of the books saying they were "the best books [he'd] ever read."[23]
