Charles Fairclough
Charles Fairclough (Charles Peter Richard Fairclough) is an IT and operations director and heads up IT at Faire Sans Dire, a niche global intelligence organisation. To varying degrees throughout its history since being established in 1978, Faire Sans Dire has always been a clandestine organisation and in most of its first three decades of existence operated invisibly so far as the public was concerned.
In 2010 Charles Fairclough opened Faire Sans Dire's website to the public but on 1 January 2018 he withdrew its operational website from public view albeit the organisation continued to investigate international corruption and injustice for long established multinational clients. Currently Faire Sans Dire operates completely covertly on a pro bono basis intermittently working with some of the more respected and well established elements of the world's media and intelligence organisations on long term investigatory assignments.
Charles Peter Richard Fairclough holds or has held IT directorships in various other organisations and companies including what was once The Burlington Files group, of which Faire Sans Dire Limited (Company No. 06552657) was a subsidiary.
In his school days, Charles was involved with a variety of IT and web related businesses.
It was when he was at Glyn School in Epsom in his early teens that he started his first IT business selling password recovery programs (which he wrote). Before going to Portsmouth University, he garnered expertise in more complex IT areas such as creating custom remote administration tools, undertaking software exploit development and research, carrying out remote system penetration testing and performing virus/worm analysis.
In 2006 Charles secured a place in Portsmouth University but decided to leave after a couple of years despite having been assured of two firsts in both Bsc Digital Media and Bsc Computing. He entered e-commerce instead of graduating after his third year in academia.
Since then Charles Fairclough has been the founder or co-founder of several e-commerce businesses as well as heading up IT at Faire Sans Dire from 2008 (having been appointed IT Director in April 2008). One of the businesses he founded, Profile Tunnel Limited, was effectively taken over by Faire Sans Dire in 2012. In a nutshell, Profile Tunnel Limited provided cutting edge technologies which enabled Faire Sans Dire to gather intelligence from cyberspace in innovative ways when undertaking covert assignments.
In 2012 Charles was seconded from Faire Sans Dire to work with Kroll Ontrack, one of its competitors in the twilight world of security and intelligence. In order to avoid conflicts of interest, Charles resigned his directorship in Faire Sans Dire Limited from January 2013 until February 2016 when he was re-appointed.
Charles has considerable experience in cyber security and intelligence activities as well as e-commerce at large.
As the head of IT at Faire Sans Dire, Charles’ responsibilities extend to the provision of all cyberspace, website and communications security services and counter intelligence activities as well as the day to day management of the organisation’s operations.
Charles features as the director of Faire Sans Dire in the Epilogue to Beyond Enkription, the first published novel in The Burlington Files series of novels, written for film adaptation, in which Edward Burlington is the main protagonist. The Burlington Files series is based on the life of Charles' father, Bill Fairclough, aka Edward Burlington, who founded Faire Sans Dire in 1978.
