Chanel Lewis is a resident of New York, New York. On February 4, 2017, Lewis was arrested in connection to death of Karina Vetrano.

Lewis resides in a housing project with his mother near the scene where Karina Vetrano was murdered. He is unemployed.

His father Richard Lewis, described him as an honor student who is a good and humble kid. He had aspirations to work in social services and was taking classes about social work.

Cops keyed in on Lewis after reviewing a 911 call made from the area by someone who said the unemployed man was acting suspiciously.

Authorities went to Lewis’ house on February 3, 2017, and collected a swab from Lewis for DNA testing. His DNA matched the same recovered from Karina Vetrano's body and phone linked him to the crime.

Lewis told investigators detailed statements about how he attacked Karina Vetrano. He did not know her before the attack.

He had also received three court summonses in 2013.

On February 5, 2017, Chanel was charged with second degree murder. If convicted, he could face up to 25 years to life in prison. ^[1] He had no prior criminal history. ^[1]
