Born in Pembroke Pines, Florida, to a Democratic family, Pommells was raised in Miramar. His political interest finally came to light in 2009, after Former President Barack Obama was elected. In 2017 he created a blog called the Pines Telegram that discussed topics anywhere from politics to health. After the aforementioned event, he began a career as a freelance journalist mainly focusing on politics, tech, and business.

Pommells is described as a constitutionalist conservative, though has renounced the term "conservative" to describe his political viewpoints. He is the executive director of the Pines Telegram.

Early life and education

Pommells was born as Chaleb Elijah Pommells on October 01, 2004, in Pembroke Pines, Florida, his parents registered Democrat. In 2017, he started attending Walter C. Young Middle School. He was elected as a member of the Miramar Youth Advisory Council, though he stepped down in order to focus on his academic career. [2]He lives with his parents Andre and Sharmaine Pommells.

Political activism

Pommells first became interested in politics when his mother turned on the debate in 2012 between Barack Obamaand Mitt Romney. At the age of 13 he started blogging in support of the constitutional debate on free speech and it's "limitations". [3]

Pommells, in March 2015, began to support CJ Pearson in his campaign to create a constitutional amendment to lower the age restriction for assuming public office in Georgia to age 18 in the House and age 21 in the Senate. [4]

Pommells is a freelance journalist, and his publications have appeared on The Daily Beast, and is a member of the NABJ. Pommells also has his own website, where he posts regular blogs. [3]

Over the timeline of Pommells's career he has changed political views and has changed support from candidate to candidate in the 2016 United States presidential election [6].

In November 2015, Pommells renounced being apart of the "conservatism" movement and questioned the ideology and foundation of the Republican Party [6] . Pommells has been know to be called a republican by classmates because of some of his views on the pro-life movement and immigration. Pommells states that he is a member of the "constitutional conservative" movement and is a Christian [6] .

Controversies

Walter C Young-Twitter feud

On February 15, 2018, Pommells posted a tweet in support of the March For Our Lives constitutional right to protest. On February 16, 2018, Pommells was ordered by the Principal of Walter C. Young to remove the post or he would "get in trouble" [7]. Pommells responded to this by launching a social media campaign in favor of the First Amendment. He has since not taken down the post and continues to stand by his statement.
