Cathie Schnitzerlingis an Australian Woman that has made major contributions to the Australian broadcast media industry throughout her career. She is currently the Regional Editor of Queensland for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation based out of Brisbane, Australia. [4] Schnitzerling has gained Experience in multiple fields within the media industry by working as a Reporter, Producer, Communications Director and finally as a News director. [4] Schnitzerling is a founding member and mentor for Women In Media; an initiative started to provide support and networking opportunities to women who have careers in the media industry [16]. She has also appeared as a panel member for Women of the World. [10] Women of the World is a UK-based festival that aims to bring attention to the inequalities and obstacles women face in the world and more specifically, the workplace. Career
Since 2015, Cathie Schnitzerling has held the position of Regional Editor of Queensland for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation based in Brisbane, Australia. [4] Throughout Queensland, she is in charge of managing ten regional bureaux, supervising the digitial and rural content of radio and television news as well as radio programs. [4] Previously, Schnitzerling was the Senior Director of Integrated Communications for the Department of Health Queensland, until 2015. [4] This position entailed managing the Department of Health's Corporate offices media, Marketing, Communication and Online service. [4] For almost a decade, beginning in 2004 and finishing in 2013, Cathie Schnitzerling was the Director of News for Network Ten in Sydney, and later on Brisbane. [7] When Schnitzerling resigned from Network Ten the reason was unknown however, she was described by a colleague as a “formidable journalist” with an “enviable” reputation. [7] Schnitzerling has had numerous jobs which have aided her career path including working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Radio, Australian Broadcasting Corporation Television, Nine Network and Reel Image. Cathie Schnitzerling is a high school graduate of Warwick High School which is located in her hometown of Warwick, Queensland. [6] She attended post-secondary school and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern Queensland majoring in Journalism. Achievements
In 2014, Cathie Schnitzerling was peer nominated for the Most Outstanding Contribution to Journalism Award presented by the Queensland Media Awards. [4] She was awarded the Best Documentary 'Hard Rain' in 2000 by Queensland Media Awards. [4] Lastly, Schnitzerling earned the Keith Willey Memorial Prize for Best Second Year Journalism Student in 1985 during her time at the University of Southern Queensland. [4]
