East Ridge Double homicides
On Sunday April 8, 2018, authorities responded to an address on John Ross Road where they found two deceased people who had sustained gunshot wound to the head. The victims have been identified as Vi Lawhorn, and his friend Avery Gaines. The incident occurred sometime before 5:30 a.m. local time.
He went on to give graphic details about their deaths in a public Facebook post, stating he shot Gaines as he lay sleeping on the floor. He said it appeared Gaines died instantly.
He then went into his mother's room and it took him multiple trips and at least four shots as his gun kept jamming.
Both were shot in the head.
Lawhorn also states that he has been suicidal.
He concluded the post, "What I look forward to is the nothingness after death.
I've spent a lot of time thinking about murder, wondering what it feels like.
But I've barely felt anything."
Lawhorn had allegedly called police and told them about the situation, but left the area before police arrived.
[1] He was believed to have been in Dade County at the time, driving a gold 2002 Ford Taurus with a Tennessee tag number W0327L.
His vehicle was later located on the side of the road on I-59 in Jasper County, Mississippi. A SWAT team surrounded his gold Taurus, but he was nowhere to be found.
Death
Lawhorn was found dead in Vossburg, Mississippi, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
