Arrest for the Murder of Sarah DeLeon
On December 29, 1989, 19-year-old Sarah DeLeon was found dead with her body found alongside railroad tracks near I-435 and Wolcott Drive outside of Kansas City, Kansas; police believe that her body was dumped there after being murdered somewhere else. Her body was discovered to have multiple stab wounds and head injuries. The murder went unsolved for 27 years.
At the time, Heckert was having an ongoing relationship with DeLeon's boyfriend.
The cold case was reopened after new technology for DNA testing became available in 2014. Five months ago, police announced that they believe that DeLeon's murder "involved the intimidation of romantic rivals. On October 19, 2016, Heckert was arrested for the murder of DeLeon and booked on $1 million bond. [1]
Authorities believe that DeLeon's murder is connected to the 1994 murder of Diana Ault, who was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in her kitchen with her two young children at home in Independence, Missouri.
