On Saturday, January 27, 2018, authorities were called at 7:27 a.m. to the Carnathan home in the 3400 block of Amberton Court in White Plains.

One of the children called 911 to report a disturbance between his parents.

He was with his two siblings who are under the age of 12 and they heard gunshots. ^{[2] [1]}

The children hid in the basement until police arrived and safely got them out of the house.

The children's parents were found dead in an upstairs bedroom.

Deputies stated that Calvin Carnathan had shot his wife before shooting and killing himself in an apparent murder suicide. ^{[2] [1]}

Candace had taken out a temporary protective order against Calvin on Friday, January 26, 2018. The order stated that Calvin needed to leave the house and not contact his wife or children. ^{[2] [1] [0]}
