Cameo Night Club Shooting March 2017
The Shooting
Detectives described a chaotic and horrific crime scene with hundreds of partygoers fleeing for their lives after the shooting began. [1] [2] Several of the victims reportedly suffered life life-threatening injuries, while others wounded were able to drive themselves to the hospital for treatment. [1] [2] [5] [29]
Police are not treating this as a terrorist attack.
According to Chief Eliot Isaac of the Cincinnati Police Department, people entered the club with guns despite the fact that security outside of the establishment giving patdowns. [31]One of the victims of the incident that night said she and other people were able to get into the club without checking for weapons. She said, "If you pay the extra money, you get in, period." [23]
The chief later also briefed the press that the Cameo Night Club had metal detectors.
Shooters/Suspects
Chief Elliot Isaac has revealed that there were at least two individuals who fired shots at the Cameo Night Club shooting.
[15]According to Cincinnati city manager Harry Black, there was animosity "between two specific groups or individuals earlier in the day, escalating and ultimately leading to this tragedy." [22]
Two of the assailants were identified as Cornell Beckley and Deondre David; at least one remains on the run.
Cincinnati restaurateur Jeff Ruby tweeted that he is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the shooting.
Ayers Transportation also added $3,000 to the reward.
Victims
O'Bryan Spikes
O'Bryan Spikes is the man who was identified as the casualty of the Cameo Night Club shooting
The sole casualty of the incident from the Cameo Night Club shooting was identified as 27-year-old O'Bryan Spikes. [31]
Officers at the scene attempted to revive him, but they were unsuccessful.
16 Injuries
The University of Cincinnati Health Center admitted 9 people from the Cameo Night Club shooting. They stated that 4 of the victims are in stable condition, 3 is in serious condition, and 2 are in critical condition. [7]
Bethesda North Hospital had 2 patients related to the shooting. They were released on the day of the shooting. [7]
The Christ Hospital admitted 2 individuals from the Cameo Night Club shooting, as well. They suffered minor injuries. [7]
Mercy Hospital - Anderson and Mercy West Hospital each treated one victim. [7]
The night after the incident took place, a 17th victim came forward to say he was among those who were injured. [15]
Angel Higgins
Angel Higgins, a mother of 5, was one of the victims that night.
She suffered a bullet wound in her left leg.
The shot traveled up her leg and into her pelvis.
She drove herself to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
She scheduled surgery in two weeks to have the bullet removed.
Aftermath
In addition, Rodgers said he told the owner he would move out immediately so that the owner could sell the property.
The two originally planned to have the night club close down in May.
Statement from the Cameo Nigh Club Owner
Julian "Jay" Rodgers issued a statement on the evening of March 26 after hearing about and reflecting on the shooting that took place earlier that day:
On behalf of the Cameo Nightclub family and staff, I want to express how deeply saddened we are by this senseless shooting.
Our goal is and has always been to provide a safe environment for our patrons.
As a part of this local community, we will continue to fully cooperate and work closely with law enforcement in their investigation to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
Cameo will remain closed until both our management completes our own investigation and the Cincinnati Police Department completes their investigation.
We extend our condolences to Obryan Spikes and his family as well as all affected patrons and their families.
We will do everything in our power to cooperate and make sure the monsters that did this are caught and brought to justice.
