Calvin Smith is a 22 year-old from Baton Rouge, Lousiana.

On February 13th, 2016, Baton Rouge officers responded to a call at 5:30 a.m, where Smith was reportedly damaging property.

When police arrived, Smith allegedly took off in a vehicle, where officers chased him until he bailed out of his car with a rifle.

According to Baton Rouge Sgt. Don Coppola, Smith shot and struck both officers, who then returned fire and struck Smith.

Smith allegedly shot multiple times, one bullet grazed the head of one officer; the other officer was hit in the stomach but protected by his bulletproof vest.

Smith was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is unknown.

According to his family, they do not know where Smith obtained the rifle.

According to his Godsister, Smith has a history of mental illness, he had been staying in a mental health facility in Shreveport during most of December 2015.

She also added that he has attempted to commit suicide in the past.

Smith is currently on probation for a 2014 charge of cruelty to a juvenile in East Baton Rouge.
