Overview

The California Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA) is an initiative that is set to be on California voter ballots in November of 2016.

The initiative would legalize the sale of one ounce of marijuana and growth of 6 personal plants per person, provided they are above the age of 21.

The bill has a broad coalition comprised of former Facebook president Sean Parker, the NAACP, NORML and the California Democratic Party.

Legal sale and consumption for persons above 21 years of age [4]

$9.25 tax per ounce of marijuana grown and $2.75 per ounce of leaves [4]

Reduced or pardoned sentences for possession, consumption or distribution of cannabis [5]

Block major growers from cultivation for 5 years - as a protectionist policy for small, existing growers [4]

Funding & Support

It has $6,000,000 funding raised in favor and $135,000 in opposition.

Of the 600,000 polled, over 400,000 favored the initiative.
