Dr. Brian Vala Nahed is a neurosurgeon based in Massachusetts. He specializes in brain tumors (Glioblastoma, Low Grade and High Grade Gliomas, Meningiomas, Metastatic Brain Tumors) and Spinal Disorders at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
He is married to Vanessa Kerry, the daughter of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. Dr. Nahed is of Iranian origin, but was born in New York.

Dr. Brian Nahed is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the MGH Brain Tumor Center and Pappas Center for Neurooncology.
Born in New York, Dr. Brian Nahed attended UCLA where he majored in Neuroscience, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and with the department's Highest Honors. He attended the Yale School of Medicine where he was awarded the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship and graduated with honors. Dr. Nahed completed his internship and neurosurgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital; where Dr. Nahed also completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Drs. Daniel Haber and Shyamala Maheswaran in the MGH Cancer Center. Dr. Brian Nahed was recruited to the MGH Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Tumor Center in 2011. As an assistant professor of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Brian Nahed's research focuses on developing the first blood based test to diagnose and monitor brain tumors. [2] Dr. Nahed serves on committees of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Joint section on Tumors. He also serves as a neurotrauma consultant for the National Football League. [4]
Personal Life
Dr. Nahed is the son of Nooshin P. Nahed and Dr. Reza M. Nahed of Los Angeles.
He married Dr. Vanessa Kerry in 2009 at Brandegee Estate, a Tuscan-style villa in Boston. The Rev. M. Thomas Shaw, the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, officiated. [3]
