Brenden Bickerstaff-Clark has an 8 year old son named Cameron. Brenden quit using heroin, 94 days before the mother of his son died from an heroin overdose. [1]
Facebook Live Video
On October 10, 2016 Brenden live streamed himself telling his 8 year old son that the child's mother just died of a heroin overdose on Facebook Live. The video received over 27 million views and over 600,000 shares in less than two days. Brenden made the video in an attempt to convince parents to quit using heroin.
Brenden told his son the news while one friend sat with him and his son and another streamed the event.
In the video Brenden and his friend have the following conversation:
'I have something to tell you, OK?...
Mommy died last night,' he tells him, as he holds his hand across the table.
'What?
What do you mean, my mom?
How?' asks the shocked youngster.
'From drugs,' he is told.
The boy suddenly breaks down and weeps and Mr Bickerstaff-Clark's friend hugs him.
'I'm sorry' says his father.
Mr Bickerstaff-Clark then gets up and climbs over the table, adding: 'I love you.
Do you need a hug?' He then embraces his devastated son before turning to the person filming it and telling them: 'That's enough'.
Reaction
Many on the internet supported Brenden for trying to create awareness the issue of heroin addictions and overdoses. Others however criticized him saying that publicizing the tragic moment would emotionally scar his son. Some also speculated that the video was staged or fake.
