Brandon Curtiss, 41, is a property manager in Meridian, Idaho.

^[0]He is involved with the Citizens For Constitutional Freedom militia group occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

He is the founder of two organizations he said intend to protect Americans against federal overreach:

Curtiss opposed the refuge takeover, but later helped organize a "buffer zone" of heavily armed men on the perimeter of the wildlife sanctuary.

He cast himself as mediator and said the perimeter was meant to prevent violence between occupiers and federal authorities.

Curtiss previously worked as an officer for the Nez Perce tribal police force and Orofino police.

He has filed for bankruptcy twice, most recently in 2009.
