Brandon Barthrop
Brandon Barthrop
Brandon Barthrop is a Pastor and leader of Red Letter Ministries. He has been featured in Vice and the Daily Mail. His style of preaching falls under the Drunken Glory movement in where adherents seem to be intoxicated on substances but are merely "high on God."
Early Life and Struggles
Growing up, Brandon lived in 24 different states before he was 18 and attended 4 different high schools.
Throughout his teenage years he experimented heavily with drugs and in 1999 he was court-ordered to Minnesota Teen Challenge for drugs.
In 2000, Brandon had a powerful experience laying in bed one night in the Minnesota Teen Challenge and said "I then began speaking in other tongues, and I didn't even know anything about tongues!
I was almost entirely clueless about Christianity going into Teen Challenge. My faith elevated ten times what it was, and I became very zealous for the Lord; zeal without knowledge."
Religious Awakening and Red Letter Ministries
From that experience, Brandon was motivated to attend Bible college at North Central University. After he graduated, he set up a ministry in Minneapolis to start a fringe movement, Red Letter Ministries, where members get high on faith. Located in a former crack house, Brandon's ministry offers a home to former drug addicts wanting to get closer to God and serves as ground zero for him broadcasting his sermons worldwide.
Personal Life
Brandon is married to Penny Barthrop.
