Shooting of Johnathan Meadows
Brandi's daughter Bresha allegedly fatally shot her abusive father Johnathan Meadows, in the head on July 28, 2016 at the family's home in Warren. Brandi called 911 at 3:20 a.m and Warren Police Department officers arrived soon after. [6]
Brandi Meadows said after the shooting, “Now mommy, you’re free” following the shooting. [2]
Bresha is facing aggravated murder charges for killing her father.
[4]
Prosecutors have not yet decided on whether Bresha will be tried as an adult.
If she is convicted as an adult, she would face up to life without parole.
If tired and convicted as a juvenile, Bresha would stay locked up in a juvenile detention center until age 21.
[4]
Brandi called Bresha a hero for saving them from her abusive father, Johnathan. Jonathan was an abusive alcoholic and would regularly threaten the family with his gun. Brandi used the same gun to kill him. [4]
Brandi praised her daughter's action saying “She is my hero; I wasn’t strong enough to get out and she helped me."
[5]
The girl’s attorney, Ian Friedman, said Bresha is a child that faced years of abuse at the hands of her father, and she witnessed her mother being abused.
[5]
“She wanted to protect her Mom,” Friedman said.

Martina Latessa, a Cleveland Police Department officer, and Brandi's sister, said Bresha has no history of violence.
“From day one she was born into a nightmare,” Latessa said.[3]
She said Jonathan was very controlling and would not let her visit.
She said that at the end of May Bresha ran away from home and came to her house. [5]
“She was begging me for help,” Latessa said, as she fought back tears.
She said she brought the teen to Warren police and talked to an officer.
She said she also contacted Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services.
“She was very, very scared for her mother and sisters.”
[5]
A police report in May shows that Bresha had been found and had told police that she lived in fear for her life.
[5]
Sherri Latessa, Brandi's other sister said “They’ve all been through it, and nobody in that county would help, that we called, would do anything,” and “She told on him, and nobody would do anything.
She did what supposed to do, and nobody helped her.”
[5]
Brandi admits that she was completely terrified of her husband, and felt powerless to act against him for fear of recrimination.
[3]
In 2011, Jonathan was accused of threatening to kill Brandi and their three children, and police were called to investigate.
[5]
Court records show that charges in the 2011 domestic violence case against Jonathan Meadows were dropped by Brandi.
Jonathan was never convicted of domestic violence.

In 2011 Brandi also filed for a protective order in order to keep Jonathan away from herself and her children.
