Bookmychotu
bookmychotu.com [0] is a website that claims to be the "First On Demand Helper Booking Platform" and allows hiring "temporary hourly helpers".
In the wake of demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes in India Bookmychotu has started offering its services to people who do not wish to stand in queue to withdraw money from ATMs.
This unique service has evoked mixed reactions.
After Government of India announced the demonetisation strategy to help curb black money, ATMs all across the country have seen queues to withdraw money that sometimes last entire days.
Bookmychotu saw the opportunity and started this on-demand stand in queue service [1] for people who are unable or unwilling to stand in these queues for as little as Rs. 90 per hour.
The service is currently operational in National Capital Region (India).
While some of appreciated the move as it provides them a convenient solution many others have criticized the service.
The conversations on the social media pages of Bookmychotu indicate that reactions to the service range from*"this is creative capitalism at its best"to"is this satire?"and"this is**ridiculous*."
Controversy
There is controversy surrounding the name of the website.
The term chotu is a common Indian slang used to refer to helpers including, and largely, children and teenagers.
This has sparked debate on whether or not Bookmychotu is actually engaging in child labour.
Many have criticized the website and Bookmychotu has been busy offering clarifications on social media claiming they do not engage in child labour.
