Boid

Boid

BOID - The social supercomputer

Intro to Boid

Intro to Boid

is an EOS decentralized application (dApp). At the heart of Boid is the desire to make the benefits of blockchain technology accessible to all people. Boid acts as a gateway, lowering the barrier to entry for non-technical users to directly participate in blockchains and distributed computing projects. Boid is a website and software platform that provides a social gateway for individuals to contribute their computing power towards big ideas and get rewarded for it. The Boid platform makes it easy for users to participate in distributed computing projects. Boid also incorporates the latest blockchain protocols, providing monetary incentives for the sharing of spare computing resources. [1]

What does “Boid” mean?

Boid is short for bird-oid.

A computer simulation of birds in a flock.

Each “boid” follows simple rules of interaction with nearbyboids.

Manyboidsinteracting results in emergent meta patterns.

Likewise, the Boid Platform relies on computing resources from a large number of individual contributors.

These small contributions cumulate into massive real-world impact.

Who is Boid for?

Boid is for anyone who wants to be part of something huge.

We designed Boid from the ground up to be as accessible as technologically possible.

Anyone with a computer (or compatible smartphone) andinternetconnection can use Boid.

Is Boid safe?

Security is a top priority for Boid.

We only work with the most reputable distributed science projects, and we architected the Boid app such that applications have limited permissions.

It’s worth noting that BOINC (the tech behind Boid) has been commonly used since the late 90s with a perfect security track record due to a robust security architecture.

We continue to roll out updates to make Boid even more secure and hacker-proof.

How can I contribute computing power towards Boid?

To increase your BoidPower, you need to install the simple Boid application on your device.

The Boid application runs in the background, transparently taking advantage of unused computing power.

The Boid application connects to your Boidaccount, and can tap into your CPU, GPU, and HDD space automatically, to maximize your Boid Power rating.

You can install the Boid app on as many of your devices as you like.

Desktop computers with dedicated GPUs tend to perform the best, but laptops can also work as well.

You can even rent a specialised service in the cloud with BOID Power to mine BOID.[27]

Income

Your Boid Power can be used to mine for various cryptos.

Get paid out daily however you like.

Stake your BOID tokens, look for Bounties and earn rewards.

Create a team, become and ambassador or validator.

It's only a beginning.

Details about:

Power Tier Level – Power Tier is a ranking assigned to your account based on your Boid power in comparison to all other network participants.

The power tiers separate Boid users based on their rate of production into 6 Tier levels.

Each level has a Tier Bonus that increases your profitability (except tier 0).

Tier 0 is the bottom 5% of users, tiers 1-4 are ~22% each while tier 5 is the top 5%.

Device power is a score given to each attached device in your account.

It is calculated based on the rate at which that device has completed work units in the Boid app over the most recent 3 weeks.

Desktop App - Windows Client Example

Ok so you managed to install your Boid Desktop App and you are ready to get BOID tokens!

Look on the app look and functionality.

On the top we can see the name of the application and the version number.

Make sure that you are on the latest version of the software by looking here: @@https://github.com/Boid-John/BoidDesktop

There is a home icon on the top blue part that leads you to the web portal on @https://app.boid.com

Next to it you should be able to see your user name and a possibility to Logout from existing session and login as a different user. In addition, “My Profile” option that leads you to your user status page on @https://app.boid.com

Below that we have your editable device name.

Next to it a hex nut looking icon takes you to Global Settings where you can setup following options:

  • Start on System Boot - enable to launch Boid when the device is started
  • Start Minimized - when enabled Boid will not display the main window on startup. You will need to access Boid by clicking on the icon in the system tray
  • Stay Awake - when enabled Boid will attempt to keep the device from entering sleep mode. This will ensure that Boid is able to run in the background for long periods of time.

DASH:

CPU

Control over your CPU work.

Shows your Boid Power Rating for that hardware and what kind of work it is doing now (World Community Grid – working to help scientists with Cancer Research).

1.1 You can turn off and on the process by using the small green slider.

1.2 Hex nut icon takes you to settings where:

1.2.1 You can setup how many % of your CPU will be used to process the work.

Boid app automatically runs at a low priority and pauses when other applications are used (>30% CPU)

1.2.2 You can “Start on Launch” – to toggle on CPU automatically when Boid app is launched.

1.2..3 "Pause on Battery Power” – Extend battery life by pausing Boid when disconnected from a power source. Boid will resume when power is restored.

1.2.4 “Pause on user activity” – (Resume after x minutes of inactivity) If enabled, Boid app will pause computing while mouse/keyboard is being used. Will resume after a set number of minutes of inactivity.

1.2.5 “Advanced”

1.2.5.1 “Open BOINC Directory” – You can manually edit config files for BOINC.

1.2.5.2 “Reset” – Removes all Boid CPU files and restarts BOID app. Files will be reinstalled on startup. You will lose progress on any Work-Units currently being worked on.

1.3 Green circle icon with white letter “i” in the middle – “Details” – takes you to a separate details tab with:

1.3.1 “Active” – work units – status of the work done now. Work units require 6-12 hours to complete before Boid Power is credited. Progress is only updated in the interface hourly. You can recognise that it’s active with a blue line bar with a blue play icon (when active) or pause icon (when not active)

1.3.2 “Pending” – this is a record of work finished by your CPU but not yet validated. Each work unit will detail:

1.3.2.1 Name of work for ex.

MCM1_0153773_5241_0 and ID number

1.3.2.2 Date, time when downloaded

1.3.2.3 How many CPU Hours Spent on it.

1.3.2.4 Date, time when Results were sent

1.3.2.5 Credit - After work units are validated by the BOINC server they are assigned a credit number, which is an internal points system of BOINC, and can be calibrated on a per project basis. BOINC Credit is important because BoidPower for that WU is derived from the Credit.

1.3.2.6 Weight - Each Work Unit is assigned a normalized float from 0 - 1 called the Weight based on the relative time that work unit was verified. For example, a Work unit which was recently completed would be assigned a weight of.9999 while a work unit that was completed three weeks ago, or near the end of the global falloff period would have a Weight near.001. Each time BoidPower needs to be calculated, the Weight is also recalculated until it reaches 0.

1.3.2.7 Power - BoidPower for a work-unit is calculated as Credit x Weight / BOINCDIFFICULTY. Since Weight is time-relative, each time BoidPower is calculated, the result will be slightly different (lower over time). For a device to maintain or increase BoidPower, it should be completing Work Units regularly. If a device stops all contributions, it will maintain residual BoidPower for the falloff period as it trails to zero.

1.3.3 “Validated” - this is a record of work finished by your CPU and validated. Each work unit will detail:

See 1.3.2.1-1.3.2.7

1.3.4 “Logs” – logs about what happened in the Boid app regarding CPU work units.

GPU

Control over your GPU work.

2.1 You can turn off and on the process by using the small green slider.

You can setup GPU work intensity next to it and it also shows with current GPU speed (in MH/s).

2.2 Hex nut icon takes you to settings where:

2.2.1 “Start on Launch” – Start GPU automatically when Boid is launched.

2.2.2 “Advanced”

2.2.2.1**“Open GPU Directory”** – You can manually edit config files for GPU Miner apps. look for config.json files in the /trex or /wildrig folder.

2.2.2.2 “Reset” – Removes all BOID GPU Files and restarts Boid. Files will be reinstalled on startup.

2.3 Green circle icon with white letter “i” in the middle – “Details” – takes you to a separate details tab with:

2.3.1 “Logs” - logs about what happened in the Boid app regarding GPU work units

Boid Teams

Team Bonus

Each Boid team has a team bonus built in.

This bonus requires no investment from the team leader, and is designed to provide a slight advantage to lower-performing teams.

The team bonus is expressed as a simple earnings multiplier with a natural range between.1% (The team at the top of the leaderboard) to 1.5% (the team at the bottom of the leaderboard).

When new users join Boid and needs to decide what team to join, the join team dialogue presents teams to them in the order of highest team bonus to lowest.

Optionally, team leaders can opt to stake additional BOID tokens.

These tokens act as a multiplier on top of the team bonus.

FinalTeamBonus = TeamStake / 10,000,000 * TeamBonus + TeamBonus

FinalTeamBonus is capped at 3%.

So for example.

If your team is at the top of the Boid Leaderboard and has a TeamBonus of.1% a stake of 10,000,000 BOIDs would increase your team bonus to.2%.

Likewise if your team is at the bottom of the leaderboard with a 1.5% TeamBonus a stake of 10,000,000 BOIDs would increase the team bonus to 3%.

If you wanted your team to have a 3% bonus while also remaining at the top of the leaderboard you would need a stake of 290,000,000 BOIDs.

Staking additional tokens does not increase the team bonus beyond 5%.

Every team gets a dynamic built-in bonus for each user on that team.

If you want to increase your team bonus, you can stake more BOID tokens.

Boid Team Rewards

Additional Information

Boid Team Rewards is an optional (but highly recommended) system for team leaders to offer additional unique incentives to their team participants.

Team Rewards are the primary way for a team leader to customize their team and get creative.

Team leaders can issue new team rewards at the start of each season and during the season as well.

Criteria

What do users need to achieve in order to be eligible for this reward?

Ex. achieve a certain rank on the Team Boid Power leaderboard.

Timeframe

The specified criteria needs to be achieved by a user account that has been on the team for a specified amount of time.

Users can change teams during the season (every two days), so to reward faithful users, you can disqualify team members that have not been on your team long enough.

Common timeframe specifications might be one week or maybe even two months (the entire season).

You could also make short term prizes that are exclusive for new users (to encourage users to change teams, or when onboarding new users directly from outside of Boid).

User Tier Eligibility

All Boid user accounts are sorted into five tiers based on a global assessment of their relative contribution to the network.

The bottom 5% of accounts are sorted into Tier 0.

Many of these accounts are either very new users or spam accounts with very low amounts of power.

Tier 1 - 4 includes the majority of average participants, and Tier 5 is the top 10% of network contributors.

You can define rewards that are targeted at specific user tiers, For example, you could target tiers 1 - 4 only, to attract normal active users who might have 1-3 computers linked to Boid.

Or make an exclusive prize only for the Tier 5 users (server farms and mining operations).

Reward

Users who reach this criteria get some predefined reward.

Currently the Boid platform supports three different types of rewards, and we are open to more ideas from team leaders.

The digital rewards are distributed automatically by the Boid system based on the criteria defined by the team leader.

  1. Any EOS token (or EOS itself), the prize will be distributed to all eligible user accounts.

  2. Token distributions are weighted by the account rank in the team leaderboard(higher performing users get a larger piece of the prize pool), and user rankings are segmented by the eligible tiers.

  3. NFTs, You can issue Non-fungible-tokens that users will be able to collect and display inside their Boid account.

  4. You can specify various characteristics about how the NFT should function.

  5. Additionally, When the dGoods NFT standard is finalized, all Boid NFTs will be transferable to user EOS accounts and visible in compatible EOS wallets.

  6. Physical Rewards can be offered such as exclusive team swag, computer hardware, hardware wallets, anything that the team leader can mail out.

  7. Users who win this prize will need to contact the team leader to provide their shipping information and claim the reward manually.

Onboarding Checklist

  • Boid account for team leader

  • Social media links

  • Team telegram link

  • Have at least 1M staked

  • Announce the team + start of season on social media.

  • List of each promotion they want ran each month - (If this is an EOS based asset they should be prepared to transfer this to the promo account when prompted so rewards can be automatically distributed.) Must include the following details:
