Bobby Sessions

Bobby Sessions

Bobby Sessions is a legendary rapper from Dallas, Texas. He called himself the the Legend from Dallas and he proved this in his debut album, Law Of Attraction. While some may say this statement is too boastful for a rapper who just released his Debut Album, for Sessions it’s simply speaking into existence what he knows he will achieve as an artist.

Early Life

The Dallas-based rapper, Bobby Sessions was born and raised in Pleasant Grove, Dallas Texas, a predominantly Black, low-to-lower middle income neighborhood southeast of the metroplex. Midway through his formative years. After some years, Bobby and his family relocated to Rowlett, a suburb 20 miles northeast. It can be deduced that the experience and exposure from the two great cities played a major role in the development of the perspectives illustrated in his Music even till date. The absence of police Sirens and Helicopters allowed a him to develop a passion for learning and an imagination bordered only by the limits of language. Poetry became his preferred and most celebrated medium but a few years of college in Denton, TX would repurpose Bobby’s creative strengths into what would bring him more personal fulfillment than he ever imagined. It was at the University of North Texas in 2010 that Bobby first penned a poem over a beat, and he hasn’t looked back since.[1]

Bobby start building his confidence and proficiency as he started having an impressive profile in the pre-pubescent, area rap scene but bills and basic necessities don’t accept lyrics or clout for payment.

Bobby spent 2010 through 2014 bouncing between jobs he hated, preparing for a destiny in which he was confident but not always certain.

In 2013, he stumbled across The Secret, a documentary that is a collection of testimonials to the law of attraction. Moved and inspired by this ideology, Bobby Sessions wasted no time making the first of his many self-fulfilled promises - there is no Plan B. “What you think you become,” a quote pulled from the documentary, became Sessions’ mantra. Everything he desired, he spoke and wrote, including the words “DEF JAM” on his refrigerator in 2014.

The Documentary really struck a chord with Sessions and made him reevaluate his entire life and future. It was then he decided to return to his dreams and drop everything to become an artist with the “law of attraction” belief system as his guide. He quit his job with only $50 left in his bank account. He didn’t know how he would pay his rent or buy food that coming month but he proceeded anyways not scared one bit at what the future would hold. Within a month, Bobby would meet with and secure management with respected music industry executives, J Dot Jones and Vince Chapa, after playing them an early version of Law Of Attraction and eventually would sign a record deal with those same individuals as they started the label,High Standardz.[2]

Career

Bobby Sessions released his first label-backed project LOA (Law Of Attraction) in late 2015, under under the guidance of industry veterans Vince Chapa and Jeremy “J Dot” Jones. The project was applauded widely as thought-provoking, bar-raising and a proper introduction for a still little-known Dallas act whose lead single Black America contorted necks at the Source, XXL and other media outlets that summer.

Just a little over a year after LOA, Bobby’s sophomore project Grateful, debuted and revealed an even more musically-inclined, confident and vulnerable master of ceremonies than its Predecessor. Out the gate, he released “First World Problems,” a single that seeks to remind listeners of the blessings in simply being alive. Following that, Bobby released the visual component to the album’s title track, “Grateful,” praised on platforms such as REVOLT and Mass Appeal for his lyrics, visuals provided by German Torres and music production from Sikwitit and PICNICTYME - all Dallas-based creatives. If Grateful was anything more than an exceptional follow-up, it was a demonstration of Bobby and his community’s dedication to quality content - whether musical, visual or cultural.

Over the course of a year, Bobby attracted the attention of Def Jam Recordings, and most notably, their then-recently appointed , Paul Rosenberg. And after a listen and meaningful exchange, Rosenberg signed Bobby Sessions to Def Jam Recordings in 2018 through High Standardz, fulfilling a prophecy Sessions made four years prior.[3]

On Friday July 20, 2018 Bobby Sessions dropped his debut EP under Def Jam Recordings,Rvltn (Chapter 1): The Divided States of AmeriKKKa. Featuring the previously released singles "Like Me" and "Pick a Side," the Dallas rapper gets help from Killer Mike and Zyah on the project, as well as producers Sikwitit, Anthm and Brown Royal. As the EP's title suggests, the project deals with issues of race facing the United States today.[4]

"It addresses white supremacy, systematic oppression, as well as introspective realizations about the responsibility of becoming a leader," Sessions said.

"

He released his second Ep on Rvltn (Chapter 2) titled The Art Of Resistance in November, 2018. The Art of Resistance follows RVLTN-Chapter 1: The Divided States of AmeriKKKa (released in July),With hard-hitting production on The Art of Resistance PicnicTyme, Audio Anthem, and RC Williams, Sessions’ aggressive, authentic, soulful sound harkens back to the roots and origins of classic hip-hop. On The Art of Resistance, Sessions continues to rip open the ongoing oppression of African-Americans in our society sand gets to the root of race issues in our Country. Throughout both EPs, he has worked toward his self-possessed goal of “taking the politically incorrect conversations from the barbershop and expressing them through music.”[5]

Bobby Sessions has always put the city at the forefront during his rise as an artist and plans to be a catalyst for breaking not only himself but also his hometown into the mainstream after long being ignored and misrepresented. Bobby’s ongoing story is a testament to the tenacity necessary to pursue and actualize one’s desires.

“It is important for me to achieve my success from Dallas.

Most people have to leave to LA or New York to get recognized but I want to prove we have all the resources in this great city to get a quality artist to the next level.”
