The song was written and produced by her brother Finneas O'Connell, whom she collaborates with on all her music and live shows.

Early Life

Billie was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 18, 2001 and is the only daughter actress and screenwriter Maggie Baird (mother) and actor Patrick O'Connell (father), both of whom are also musicians.

Billie Eilish is of Irish and Scottish descent but was raised in Highland Park neighborhood in Los Angeles.

She was homeschooled and taught music and the basics of songwriting by her mother, Maggie along side her brother Finneas.

While growing up Billie performed at talent shows and joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age eight.

While growing up Eilish and her brother Finneas had worked together on some music, while Finneas had been writing and producing his own songs and performing with his band.

Once in an interview Eilish stated that Finneas and her mother inspired her to get into music, she also said that the siblings were encouraged to express themselves and dive/explore whatever interested them by their parents including things like art classes and acting.

Eilish wrote her first "real" song when she was 11 for her mother's songwriting class.

The song was about the zombie apocalypse and was greatly inspired by the television series The Walking Dead from which she took script lines and episode titles and added to the song as part of the assignment. She had gone on some acting auditions, which she disliked. However, she enjoyed recording background dialogues for crowd scenes and this led her to working on the films Diary of a Wimpy Kid (film), Ramona and Beezus, and the X-Men (film series).

Billie's career in singing started at the very young age of 8 when she joined the LA Childrens Choir but it wasn't until she was 16 that her career really took off with her hit single "Ocean Eyes"which she released in 2015.

The song and Eilish received praise and promotion from various media outlets and marketers, including radio stations and music supervisors such as Beats 1, BBC One, Book Zane Lowe, and Chris Douridas. At that point her brother Finneas' manager had reached out to him after they co-created "Ocean Eyes" to discuss Billie's potential. After a while in a deal arranged by her brother, Billie signed to the Apple Music A&R company named Platoon, which specializes in helping package artists before they get a major label deal. Later on "Ocean Eyes" was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIIA) in September 2018 and peaked at number 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2019.

A music video for "Ocean Eyes" was released in March 2016 and by August 2016, Billie had signed to the record label and artist management company called The Darkroom, an imprint of Interscope Records.

Justin Lubliner, who signed Eilish to The Darkroom, developed her image as an artist, using inspiration from of hip hop artists such as Travis Scott and Chance the Rapper, not relying on one big single and focusing on creating a "persona and distinct aesthetic". That same year, Eilish released another single titled "Six Feet Under", which premiered on Apple Music's Beats 1 radio show.

Following the success of the "Ocean Eyes", Eilish released the another single titled "Bellyache" on February 24, 2017 and a music video in March.

That same month she also released the track "Bored" which was part of the soundtrack to the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

In March, Apple Music also showcased Eilish at the South by Southwest music festival and in June 2017 she released the single "Watch" with a follow-up single titled "Copycat" in July 2017, along with the announcement of her debut EP called "Don't Smile at Me"which was released August 2017. The singles in the EP included songs titled "Idontwannabeyouanymore" and "My Boy", "Burn" featuring rapper Vince Staples, "Party Favor" and many more. The 9 track EP was considered a huge success with two singles becoming certified gold by the RIAA, it also reached top 15 in countries such as the US, UK, Australia and Canada. The EP transformed Eilish's image and genre from "from pastel pop star to dark pop artist".

In February 2018, Eilish embarked on a tour which concluded in April 2018 and after that she collaborated with American singer Khalid for the single "Lovely", which was released in April 2018 and added to the soundtrack for the second season of 13 Reasons Why. "Lovely" was a major hit and before long was certified platinum in the US. She also released the singles "Bitches Broken Hearts" and "You Should See Me in a Crown".

In October 2018, Eilish released the single "When the Party's Over" and signed a modeling contract with Next Management. She was also placed on the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 list in November and released the single "Come Out and Play" which was written for a holiday-themed Apple Inc. commercial that same month.

In early January 2019, Eilish's EP Don't Smile at Me reached 1 billion streams on Spotify, making her the youngest artist to top 1 billion streams on a project. She released her third single for her upcoming album titled "Bury a Friend" along with a song titled "When I Was Older", which was a single inspired by the 2018 film Roma. After the release "Bury a Friend" peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. In February, her fourth single from the album, "Wish You Were Gay" was released on March 4, 2019,[ and debuted and peaked at number 31 in the US and was later on certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIIA).

On March 29, 2019 Billie released her first debut album titled "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?".

The popular streaming app named Spotify launched a "multi-level campaign behind the album"by creating a multi-media playlist and "new product features" that Spotify stated would "allow for vertical video content, custom assets, and editorial storylines all with the goal of creating more meaningful and engaging context for her fans."

The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 as well as on the UK Albums Chart, making Billie Eilish the first artist born in the 2000s to have a number one album in the United States, and the youngest female to have a number one album in the United Kingdom. Upon the album's debut, Eilish broke the record for most simultaneously charting Hot 100 songs by a female artist, with 14 songs, every song from the album, excluding "Goodbye", charted on the Hot 100. The fifth single from the album, "Bad Guy", was released in conjunction with the album. A remix of the song featuring Justin Bieber was released in July 2019 due to the fact that Eilish was a big fan of Bieber while growing up and had always wanted to collaborate with him. In August, "Bad Guy" peaked at number one in the US, ending another young american musician named Lil Nas X's record-breaking 19 weeks at number one with the song "Old Town Road"featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. She is the first artist born in the 2000s and the youngest artist since Lorde to have a number-one single.

On November 20, 2019, Eilish was nominated for six (6) Grammy Awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "Bad Guy" as well as Album of the Year and Best New Artist. At the age of 17, she became the youngest artist to be nominated in all four general field categories. In that same month, Eilish was crowned 2019 Billboard Woman of the Year and on 13th of Febuary 2020 Billie released her recorded song for the title track for the twenty-fifth installment of the James Bond film franchise, titled No Time to Die which she recently perfomed at the 2020 Brits Award show. The song was written and produced by her and her brother, Finneas O'Connell.
